“My only concern is to set men absolutely, unconditionally free”, declared Jiddu Krishnamurti in one of his famous discourses in 1929. This prophetic statement is beyond any doubt very challenging. Who doesn’t want to be absolutely, unconditionally free? But is it really possible? If so, how? Does he show a way to absolute and unconditional freedom? These are some of the questions which the author of this book tries to answer, by making an analytical study of J. Krishnamurti’s understanding of freedom and liberation, and his proposal to reach the same. Absolute or unconditional freedom is possible according to J. Krishnamurti, but unlike other teachers or gurus, he offers no path or method to reach it.
However he does offer an approach. The life of freedom, both artistic and creative, consists precisely in the approach – viz., “choiceless awareness” – that we have towards life itself. A life lived in “choiceless awareness” brings about a “radical psychological revolution” or “mutation” of the mind, making it to function in its wholeness. Every action that flows from that state of wholeness is absolutely free and liberating because they are actions of intelligence and love. A life lived in “choiceless awareness” brings about a qualitative difference; living becomes authentic, free, creative and joyful. It becomes a life of ecstasy!
The author invites the reader to experiment with the approach proposed by J. Krishnamurti and he assures that a life lived in “choiceless awareness” becomes really free, creative, liberating and joyful.
